about cairn

Cairn is a journaling app that respects the one thing modern tech most often violates: privacy.

We believe your thoughts — your raw, unfiltered thoughts — are yours alone. Not the product company's. Not advertisers'. Not even "anonymous analytics."

Everything you write in Cairn stays on your device. No cloud backups. No server-side processing. No tracking pixels. Nothing leaves your phone.

The problem

Most digital journaling apps store your entries on servers. They need to, right? That's how the internet works — write something, it goes to a database somewhere.

But journaling is different. It's about processing your thoughts, your feelings, your experiences. Handing those words to a server feels wrong — and increasingly, it's dangerous:

Our solution

We built Cairn differently. Instead of cloud-based AI that requires server communication, we use Apple's on-device models:

Our philosophy

"The most powerful tool for self-reflection is a private space where nothing you write matters to anyone but you."

We designed Cairn around three principles:

  1. Privacy first. No account creation, no email required, no cloud storage.
  2. On-device intelligence.All AI runs on your device using Apple's built-in models.
  3. User ownership. You control your data. Delete entries or the app, and everything is gone — everywhere.

What Cairn stands for

The future

Cairn is launching on the App Store for iPhone. We're also exploring a macOS companion and iPad support for journaling with handwriting recognition.
